Penobscot Marine Museum, a cornerstone of midcoast Maine’s cultural heritage, holds an extraordinary archive of photographs, artifacts, and historical research materials. Yet its outdated branding and cluttered website made it difficult for visitors and scholars to engage with its wealth of content. The main site overflowed with information but lacked visual appeal and intuitive navigation, while two microsites featuring renowned photographers were active yet disconnected from the broader experience.
We set out to reimagine the museum’s digital presence through the eyes of both visitors and researchers—making Maine’s maritime history more accessible, immersive, and visually compelling. Collaborating closely with the board and executive committee, we developed a modern brand identity complete with a new logo, messaging, and design system. The redesigned website now serves as a vibrant, user-friendly archive where art, photography, exhibits, and historical documents come together seamlessly for local tourists and global researchers alike.
